According to the White House, at least 2.6 million children ages 5 to 11-year-olds have received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Wednesday, with 1.7 million of those doses administered in the last week alone.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention signed off on a pediatric vaccine for younger children Nov. 2, and the nationwide drive to inoculate that age group was operational Nov. 8.
The administration of the vaccine for children has been roughly three times faster than the rate adults were vaccinated in the start of the nation’s campaign 11 months ago.
Children who get their first vaccine dose by the end of this week will be full vaccinated by Christmas, assuming they get their second dose three weeks after the first one.
