Apple’s iPhone 17 Launch Sparks Upgrade Surge – A Strong Signal for Holiday Season

October 20, 2025 by Bautis Financial
Apple iPhone 17

The iPhone 17 is sparking an upgrade frenzy – and not just among tech fans. Early sales are outpacing last year’s model by double digits, giving Apple a powerful boost heading into the holidays.

The recently launched iPhone 17 series is off to a strong start in two of the world’s most important smartphone markets – the United States and China – providing Apple Inc. with a confidence boost heading into the holiday season.

According to firm Counterpoint Research, iPhone 17 sales outpaced the iPhone 16 lineup by about 14% in the first 10 days after launch in the U.S. and China.

The Financial Times reports that improvements to the phone’s battery life, camera, and display are fueling an “upgrade frenzy” among customers – with many trading in older devices. The base model’s price remains unchanged from last year, adding to the appeal.

Analysts say the strong early demand gives Apple a boost heading into the holiday shopping season, helping the company beat Wall Street’s expectations set before launch. Early sales in China – a key growth market – nearly doubled compared to last year’s model, signaling a potential rebound in that region.

Bottom line: Apple enters the final quarter of 2025 with renewed momentum, suggesting a healthier upgrade cycle and stronger consumer confidence in high-end tech.
